1.st of January 2012 a new chapter in Fantastic Norway’s history books were written, when the subsidary studio “Fantastic Finland” was established. The fantastic pioneers that are taking on the relay baton and continuing our ambulant architectural odyssey is our former student and colleague Pekka Ijäs and his companions Earo Alho and Cristian Steanescu.

This year and perhaps for years to come, Fantastic Finland will continue to work with architecture from a bottom up perspective and evolving the methods established by Aasarød/Haffner in 2004-2007, futher. We expect fantastic projects and stunts to occur in Finnish forests, towns and cities during in the months to come.

We will be following Fantastic Finland closely and hope to establish Fantastic Sweden, Fantastic Denmark and who knows – maybe Fantastic Brazil in a not too distant future.

Let us know if you’re up for the challenge!

In the 70′s Oslo’s own “Man in Black”, Professor Per Kartvedt, held a legendary lecture series on cities, communities, myths and dreams.

For decades the slides from the lectures remained tucked away in an attic in Nesodden. Saturday 29th of October at 1900 the slides will see the light of the projector once again, at Internasjonalen on Youngstorget.

The windows in Slide City are disjointed pieces of Per’s stories. Each window is a fragment of his life, thoughts and stories. Not unlike the fragments we see of other people’s life every day, through windows and brief meetings. Fragments you put together to new stories and fictions.

Dress up in your blackest clothing and have a glimpse at Per’s Slide City and enjoy drinks from Per’s selection of beverages!

The exhibition is designed by Fantastic Norway in close collaboration with Per Kartvedt. The project was managed by Fantastic Norway’s Lars Goossens.

The exhibition will additionally showcase JAJA, LETH & GORI, Elding Oscarsson, Cobe, Testbedstudio among others.

“It happens more than you first think at the young Scandinavian architecture scene. It is really exciting to see that young unestablished architects are part of major projects. The result is often border crossing and developing for the new Nordic architecture” (Andreas Lyckefors / curator)

Fantastic Norway was recently awarded second place for best stand design at 100% Design in Earls Court / London, by Blueprint Magazine. The jury stated: “Within the context of the exhibition’s opening debate, surrounding ideas of the post-national nature of design, a country which has attempted to capture some essence and the characteristics of Norwegian design is an interesting exploration, and one which the Blueprint judges deemed worthy of special commendation”.

Our design was not mainly a stand for 100% Norway, but first and foremost a flexible exhibition system that has the ability to adapt into different spaces: From small and narrow areas to larger halls and spaces.

The stand design consists of a series of triangles and squares and it employs aluminium poles and a wooden puzzle like floor. Our aim was to not make a retrospective and romantic stand, but rather create system with modern materials.

Our focus is that Norway should be promoted as a modern and hi-tech society. Throughout history our coastal culture has always had the ability to absorb new ideas, and has been adaptable during changing times. Therefore, Norwegians have in one way always been really modern.

The design and production was led by Lars Goossens (Fantastic Norway), in close colaboration with Bjørnar Gudbrandsen (NSI).

Friday the 23rd of September The Norwegian Day of Architecture 2011 was arranged at Vulkan/Oslo . The day marked the beginning of Architecture Festival of Vulcan. The arrangment aimed to provide knowledge, inspire and to engage – and to address relevant technical issues in architecture and urban development.

The focus on the conference was new types of processes within the field of architecture. Architects, scientists and others talked about processes using communication, exchange and participation in ways that provides architecture more power and new relevance.

For this occation Fantastic Norway made three short videos in colaboration with AntroFilm, to introduce the debates “communication, exchange and participation”.

We are proud to announce that Fantastic Norway has been awarded the annual prize “Social Architect of the Year”. The price was handed over at a wonderful garden party held by Skaara Architects, in Oslo/Norway. We would like to thank the jury and Skaara Architects for a fantastic price and a great party!
