Cabin Bogøyvær

06 Sep 2014 /

(Under construction)

The site is located on the south side of the small community Bogøyvær Island. The building typology in Bogøyvær is varied, but most of the houses can be described as honest coastal building without ornamentation. Due to the island’s rough and flat profile the buildings are very visible from the sea.

The eastern and northeastern wind are dominant. In the summer the sun sets in the north / northwest.

Based on this we designed a simple cabin with a “stout” expression. Beyond this, our ambition has been to give the cabin a traditional expression, without making the traditional romantic.

The basic shape of the cabin is inspired by a long, but relatively small building typology found in the region. By folding the structure slightly, a pocket occurs in front of the house. This pocket becomes an outdoor space protected from the dominant wind directions. From this out door area the sun conditions are also ideal.

Beyond this, use simple and traditional materials and details, so that the building appears to be simple and sober. Our ambition has been to give the cabin a traditional touch, without making the traditional romantic.

To be built spring 2013
